Although the Galaxy series interfaces do not have built-in preamps, you can still use mic emulations by connecting an external preamp. Here's how to set it up in the Galaxy Control Panel.
Step 1: Connect Your External Preamp
⦁ Physical Connection:
⦁ Connect your external mic preamp to the first LINE IN DB25 connector on the back of the Galaxy device.
Step 2: Set Up Routing in the Galaxy Control Panel
⦁ Route Line Input to Emulation:
⦁ Open the Galaxy Control Panel.
⦁ In the Routing Matrix, drag and drop LINE IN 1 to EMU MIC IN. This step routes the signal from your external preamp to the mic emulation module.
⦁ Apply Mic Emulation:
⦁ Go to the MIC EMU tab in the Galaxy Control Panel.
⦁ Select and apply the desired mic emulation to your input signal.
⦁ Route Emulated Mic Signal to DAW:
⦁ In the Routing Matrix, drag and drop MIC EMU OUT 1 to DAW IN 1. This step routes the emulated mic signal to the first input channel of your DAW.
Step 3: Activate Hidden Routing Channels
⦁ The Emu Mic In and Emu Mic Out rows are hidden by default in the Galaxy Control Panel. Click on these rows to reveal and activate them.
By following these steps, you can effectively use mic emulations with your external preamp and Galaxy interface, allowing you to enhance your recordings with high-quality emulated microphone tones directly within your DAW.
