Antelope Audio devices are made to lock to your computer VIA USB , so your interface and DAW have synced sample rates , our devices have the SR converter option witch actually converts your interfaces Sample Rate, no matter if it is clocked or not , to the DAW's session sample rate.
This is the reason every time you open your DAW your devices sample rate changes and your clock source changes to USB.
In order to use your device with an external Word Clock connection (it does not matter if it is via W.C. , ADAT , TOSLINK or S/Pdif) follow these steps:
For Orion Studio Series/ ZenTour / Discrete Series/ Orion32+/ Orion32HD / Pure2 / Goliath Series/ Zen Studio:
1. Create your new session in your preferred DAW.
2. Set up your session's Sample Rate (the Sample Rate you prefer to work with)
3. Save your session and close your DAW
4. Unplug your device from the USB cable
5. Connect your external clock source to your device. It is very important to set THE SAME sample rate as the one in your DAW session.
If you choose a sample rate different than your session's sample rate the device WILL NOT use external clock sync , it will be locked via USB in order to avoid mistakes in the signal – this is because of the Sample Rate conversion option.
6. Make sure that your device is communicating properly with your external Word Clock.
7. Connect your device to the computer with the USB cable.
8. Open the session that you created previously and your device will work with your external Clock source and will be synced with your DAW
For Orion32:
1. Create your new session in your preferred DAW.
2. Set up your session's Sample Rate (the Sample Rate you prefer to work with).
3. Save your session and close your DAW.
4. Open up your Control Panel and set the clock source to your preferred connection.
5. Unplug your device from the USB cable.
8. Open the session that you created previously and your device will work with your external Clock source and will be synced with your DAW.
Note that in theOrion32 Control Panel it will state in the clock source USB lock ,nonetheless the Orion32 will still be communicating with the external Word Clock , if you check your interfaces front panel you will see that the “lock” light active. If your device isn't communicating with the external clock sync the “lock” light will be flashing.
Reminder:
Have in mind that your DAW remembers the last Sample Rate you have used , meaning that if you have made your session with the Sample Rate that matches your W.C.'s Sample Rate , but after that you have opened a session that is with a different Sample Rate , when you connect your interface and open up your session the DAW will send information to the device with the last used Sample Rate and of it does not match the devices it will lock via USB and then switch the DAW and the device to the current sessions Sample Rate. In this case just open up and close the session, perform the clocking steps again and when you open your DAW it will “remember” the last sessions Sample Rate and if it is the same as the devices it will stay synced with your external clocking source.
